THE KAOKOLAND SAFARI TRAIL (13 days)

The Kaokoland Safari Trail is a tailor-made, exclusive experience for visitors that will be introduced to the different faces of Namibia with its variety of wildlife, extreme countrysides and friendly hospitality.  This excursion takes us to the harsh, but extremely beautiful North Western side of Namibia.  But you will also be entertained on a beautiful coastal drive and visit the majestic sand dunes of the Namib Desert. You will travel in comfortable 4×4 vehicles in true African fashion.

Day 1Arrival Windhoek

Arrival in Windhoek, Namibia.  Transfer from Windhoek International Airport to accommodation establishment for 1st night.  Evening at your own leisure (Lodging).

Day 2Windhoek en route Ruacana

We depart from Windhoek and travel approximately halfway to Ruacana. Overnight lodging.  Evening at your own leisure.

Day 3Ruacana

After breakfast we head to Ruacana where we will arrive early afternoon.  Dinner and briefing on the upcoming 4×4 adventure into this harsh, but beautiful landscape.In the days to come you will be entertained by wildlife (lions, elephants, giraffe, mountain zebras, various antelopes & birdlife).  Lodging for the night.

Day 4Ruacana – Epupa Falls

After breakfast we travel along the Kunene River to the famous Epupa Falls to arrive early afternoon.  This will allow us to walk to the falls, swim or join a guided tour to learn more about the traditional Himba tribe (not included in activities).  Alternatively just relax.  Lodging.

Day 5Epupa Falls – Van Zyl’s Pass – Marienfluss

Today we back-track, then drive the rocky trail towards the well-known Van Zyl’s Pass.  Travelling will be slow as we ‘crawl’ down the pass until we reach the beautiful Marienfluss grasslands.

We enter a savannah-like landscape and encounter oryx, ostrich, springbuck etc.

           

We will setup camp and enjoy dinner in a true Namibian way, around a campfire.

Day 6Marienfluss – Orupembe region

After a hearty breakfast we continue our journey through all contrasts of the region until we reach our destination for the day, overnighting in the Orupembe region (Lodging).

Day 7Orupembe – Purros region

Today we proceed from Orupembe region to Purros.  Travelling through some dry riverbeds surrounded by mountain ranges and flatlands enjoying wildlife and scenery until we reach our destination, Purros, late afternoon where we will camp overnight.  Enjoying a sundowner and dinner around the campfire.

Day 8Purros – Amspoort district

We continue our safari to one of the most beautiful gorges in the district of Amspoort.  On route we travel in riverbeds and may encounter more wildlife.

Our camp for the night will be in a dry riverbed.

Day 9Amspoort district – Sesfontein

After breakfast travel in riverbed past Sesfontein to one of the true magical and spectacular place situated in a canyon.  We visit a warm-water spring and spend some time swimming and leisuring.

Day 10:   En route to Swakopmund

We travel to Swakopmund, visiting scenic and interesting places as we go along, arriving early afternoon where you will have some leisure time to explore this historical coastal town.  Lodging.

We will enjoy dinner in the evening at a local German restaurant.

           

Day 11:   Swakopmund / Day tour Sandwich Harbour

A day excursion to Sandwich Harbour.   A scenic coastal drive until we reach the majestic sand dunes in the Namib Desert / Namib Naukluft Park. The desert offers spectacular views.

Return to Swakopmund in the afternoon for time at your own leisure to continue exploring the town and surroundings.  Lodging.  Dinner in the evening at a local restaurant.

Day 12:   Swakopmund / Catamaran cruise

Today we will travel to Walvis Bay to undertake an unforgettable catamaran cruise.

         

Pelicans, cape fur seals & dolphins will accompany  us on this cruise.  We will also pass the oyster farm.  Return to Swakopmund in the afternoon.  Dinner in the evening at a local restaurant.

Day 13:   Swakopmund / Windhoek

Transfer from Swakopmund to Windhoek International Airport  and sadly say ‘Goodbye’.
